Thinking about the push and pull of dimensions in clay... The push of a two dimensional drawing living in a flat three dimensional piece of clay. The pull of this two dimensional line work when it hangs on the wall in the third dimension. The layering of color through underglazes and top glazes within the greenware and bisque firing processes. I am now thinking about working back into these final fired pieces with painting mediums. Combining painting materials with the ceramic work to set even more intentions with layering of color. Another push and pull of distinction between process and mediums. I have always wanted to experiment by applying acrylic paints into my ceramic pieces to investigate the harmony. These might be the first clay happenings to call for action. More updates to follow.

I have been a bit MIA on here when it comes to updating my blog on the progress of my studio practice... But that does not mean I have not been making!! I learned how to knit in October and have been obsessed ever since. I remember when I was younger, maybe seven, my mother had her own needles in her craft room and I attempted to learn from an early age but it never stuck. Look at me now, a thirty year old grandma, who can't put her needles down. I have also endeavored into the world of crochet. Now I am no pro, a very early on beginner who can only handle the basic stitches, but I thoroughly enjoy sitting on my couch watching a series on the weekends and fiddling way with my needles. There is a creative reuse thrift store near my town and I have finally had the opportunity to visit. Inside they have donated craft supplies at discounted prices... I have been going to grab scrap yarn that is recycled. Colored coded bins of randomness, there is yarn in all textures, sizes, materials, weights, etc. Nothing is labeled, some balls have their original vintage identifiers rubber banded to their bodies that describe what they are made of, but almost all scraps are a gamble. I go through each bin and touch the ones that look yummy to knit to see if they are worthy to make it home with me. Sometimes you strike gold and find a real chunky wool or you rummage around and bump into a cotton soft to the touch. The past trip I went with texture in mind. I found a really cool ball of deep blue metallic yarn that had BEADS incorporated into it. So fun <3 There is a lot of knitting and crochet content online right now, I have been consuming it as much as possible. My dream is to work up a chunky sweater or bolero with colorful and bright fibers. I have only been able to freehand my first few attempts at skirts and handbags. Using panels hand sewn together to create the shapes. I attempted to knit in the round as well and then learned the harsh reality that if you do not do it correctly you will create a circular piece with an internal fold... womp womp. Everyday is a learning curve.
