I visited Anat Egbi Wilshire Gallery for the first time last weekend because I wanted to see the 7ft tall oil paintings of Robert Russell in person to compare their visual integrity that radiates through a screen vs. in real life. I was extremely impressed to say the least. I also had the privilege of getting to experience the gallery by myself because it was early enough on Saturday morning at opening that nobody else was there. Being able to take my time and spend a moment with each painting helped me compare and absorb the skill and brushstrokes of Russell who has most certainly perfected his craft. It wasn't until after I left that I researched the meaning behind the Allach porcelain figurines within his paintings and found out they hold significant importance to his religion and comprehension of being a Jewish Artist reclaiming and exposing Nazi monstrosity.
