I found an old pack of prismacolor PREMIER colored pencils in my storage and decided to push myself to work with them again in a new sketchbook. I miss being able to intuitively express myself in visual ways without restrictions or critical judgements on my decision making. It has been an adjustment for me to understand the materials again on paper. I was at LAX this past weekend waiting for my flight to San Francisco... that eventually got canceled... but while I was waiting at the gate I started my new exploration of colored pencils drawing from real life. I bought a mini yellow Fabriano sketchbook at the art store prior to my trip and began working in it . I have been retraining my heavy hand to lighten up. I am interested in pushing and pulling the visual nature of line with colored pencils through shape and layering of mark. Avoiding to naturally start the foundation of my drawings with a pen outline... I want to play with composition and color. Developing a new process of image creation in my own sketchbook routine. I do not necessarily like anything I've doodled thus far in my new sketchbook but I am excited about pushing myself with material. I also want to build my doodles and provide my drawings with more information in the beginning stages of ideation so I can potentially use them for paintings in the future. This is what I am planning for.
